Carbohydrates are one of the primary macros

Carbs serves as the body’s main source of energy. Found in foods such as grains, fruits, and vegetables, carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which fuels our cells and powers vital bodily processes. They not only provide instant energy but also play a significant role in brain function, preserving muscle mass, and supporting the digestive system. In a keto diet, the focus is on low carb consumption.

Proteins are the vital macros building our bodies

Composed of amino acids, proteins are responsible for repairing and constructing tissues, enzymes, hormones, and antibodies. They contribute to the growth and maintenance of muscles, skin, hair, nails, and even organs. Excellent sources of protein include meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, and certain plant-based foods.

Fats, often misunderstood and demonized

Healthy fats are essential for our overall health. They serve as a concentrated source of energy and aid in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Moreover, fats provide insulation and protection to vital organs, maintain healthy cell membranes, and promote brain function. While some types of fats, such as saturated and trans fats, should be limited for optimum health, others, like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in nuts, seeds, avocados, and fatty fish, are highly beneficial.

Balancing these macros in our diet is crucial to ensure we meet our nutritional needs and support our bodies’ functions efficiently. While the optimal ratio of macros may vary depending on individual keto goals, activity levels, and health conditions, a well-rounded diet typically consists of a balance between carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. By including a variety of whole foods and making informed choices, we can maximize the benefits that macros offer and maintain a healthy body and mind.
